Guys should be good in leading.
I agree girls tend to lead themselfs while dancing but whats the reason behind it?
I many a times take the leads myself while dancing coz its not that I want to lead myself but its just that I am mastering my moves which I know is wrong coz then my partner will not get to learn, but then when I wait for the lead I have noticed hardly any guys can lead properly.
Especially Firstly- I dont like the spot turn leads, when the guys leads us, they think if they raise our hands and then we we dont turn they say "why are you not taking spot turn am leading you" by raising is definatelly not a proper lead, he has the girls hand in his hand so while the girl is about to take the 5-6-7 he should slightly twist the girl plam towards inside so that she is prepared to take the spot turn when she takes the hold on 4.
Secondly-Guys really got to learn to lead...I have also come across few guys while doing CBL turns, when its turn to do cbl they dont pull the girl towards them so that the girls know that its the cbl step which they have to do, its like they giving us a way to walk in and walk out.
I mostly take the leads myself and I have to correct myself on that ground, but guys learn the right way to lead. am not an expert but have a minute knowledge about leads.
1)But I would like to know if a guys is not leading well then what is a girl suppose to do?
2)Cant she enjoy her own moves and her style?

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
Kainath, I accede with the points you elaborated.
It is very true that some (okay, most) guys dont lead properly or dont lead at all. It happens, for instance in Magic - where the guy leads till crossbody turn and his half turn, then they just leave leading for the rest of it. It happens because they aren't creative!
If the guy in not doing anything at all, and just doing basics (or say just spot turns, CBL etc), you can do your own styling! Make a body wave; take the spot-turns; if one or both hands are free - do own hair brushing, spread out hands, or do other styling stuff with hand(s). At times, you can rip off your hand (if in closed hold), and do styling. This all adds spice to your own dancing, and telling the guy "Do something!".

Well, if the guy is not leading for the rest of part of the move, just don't do anything - just do basics. Or follow the improper/wrong lead! Here, if you think that guy is good in salsa, and you know that he know the move - just enjoy the Creative Lead! On the other side, if you know he is doing it wrong (since you know him!), correct him!1)But I would like to know if a guys is not leading well then what is a girl suppose to do?

Thanks Ajay,
Ya but its v.boring just to do basic's when you really wanna dance, my partner got to the leads and me too else I front step in for a dance. but just wanted to know that key information you gave me thanks.
But as Quickstep Salsa stress on making the girls moves right, they should also stress on the guys especially how to hold the girls plam and indicating style for leading. Coz even guys play a major role.

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
kainath,
guys play THE major role (in making the girl look good ). i dont mean this in a chauvinistic sort of way at all. But if a really good guy dancer dances with a beginner girl , he can still make the whole dance look great.. but if the girl is great and the guy cant lead, the girl and the dance are finished.
guys have to have to have to lead really really well.. it is imperative

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
hi kai, Quickstep instructors not only stress on making the gals move rite but also makes sure that guys holds are proper and are able to gve correct leads. lots of importance is given for the guys to lead in the rite way in their basic classes. coz after all its the gals who hve to follow the leads of the guys...there may be times when u find such situation but dats bound to happen...its jus more practise n confidence after which thngs become easy to lead n follow...

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
Yes Salsaking ur right, but it gets v.hard to learn our own steps when the leads are not right and on right time. Its like I have not completed 5-6-7 and 1-....., so on 6 the guy pulls me for cbl so its like a juggling up in leads. I have had been having this problem therefore I wanted to know can a girl add her on style or take the leads if the guy is just taking it easy...
I really liked what Ajay had to say on this

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
Hi Anand,
YOUR RIGHT no matter how good a girl is if the guy is not leading her well then everything is finish.
Just one of my past experience I would like to share coz thats the reason why I want the guys to be good in leading the girls.
when first time I had attained a demo class in ballroom section, I didnt know a thing, ya but ofcourse knew our bollywood style of "Copy Ballroom" dancing style, so this trainner in the classroom called me on the dance floor, among from all the girls standing there and told see "this girl does not knows so&so dance but I will make her dance", within a fraction of a sec I started dancing on his tunes and was zapped the way he was spinning me. and thats wherein I understood the importances of leading.
I make many many mistakes in the class and especially when the music is playing, coz I really like flowing with the music, and ALWAYS forget that am yet a beginner.......

Re: Guys should be good in leading.
Hi,
I think what we need is a lot of practice to gain confidance. what we learn in class is just one step or combonation but till we dont actually dance patching up a few combinations the girls will tend to lead themselves. In class we know what step we have to do next so many times i tend to lead my self.
hey Anand,
When are the Salsa Nights happening?
