Having fun!
Hey guys ..
I think the most important aspect of styling is having a good time.. Ofcourse, you have to reach a certain level of comfort with the dance first..
But once you do, its mostly about understanding and adapting to the way you like to move..
And then it just gets better..

ya i agree too... the way the girl responds in a dance with subtle acknowledgement of the fact that she's having a good time dancing, whether it be with a smile or a gentle nod or whatever rubs off on the leader and as a result on the whole dance in general. if the demeanour of the follower conveys to the leader "i'm dancing to have fun, try that new thing with me, i dun care if we go off time for a bar or two, damn i dun even care if i end up with light knock on my forehead", it kinda frees up the leader's mind and he feels comfortable trying to make things interesting and the whole mood is reflected on the dance. on the other hand, when the leader comes across someone with a look saying "uh-oh, i dunno wat new crap this psycho's gonna try to pull on me today..." it makes the leader execute even the moves he knows well gingerly and mechanically, and shies him away from doing anything other than the ordinary, not to mention takes away all the fun from the dance and the whole dancing has a stiff look. of course, if the guy has a history of trying out stuff all the time that he doesn't know too well and messing things up, its not exactly the follower's fault... bottomline, what i'm trying to say is, from a leader's perspective, its no fun tickling when the person who gets tickled doesn't giggle... so girls, stay ticklish!

Re: Having fun!
Very true! Girls must learn styling, concentrate on improving it; instead of remembering the moves. Come on ladies, the guy will utilize his brainpower to think of different moves and would lead you! You just FOLLOW!
Utilize your brainbox to apply some amazing, unique and stupefying styling on the move you are performing. Both of you would definitely have fun while dancing. Most of the time, styling is performed when your one or both hands are free! DONT put them down - do something!
Improve the styling - starting with hands (stretching, or just bending them), then do with self hair-brushing and then proceed with meliorating your leg-work! Choose the sequence you like, but you can't improve all of them in one go - be practical.
So stop getting jealous from Heenaa, learn from her - she is delirious to teach you!

Also, its about time we guys learn some styling too.. most of us just feel satisfied if we r able to lead the girl correctly(which is an achievement , nodoubt) ...but much needs to be achieved still in terms of styling!!

Hey...small query regarding your above quote.... In my experience with other forms of dance, I noticed that what tends to happen is, you learn a move, and you practice a million times to just get the move right...by the time you actually get it right, your brain's already registered the way you're moving completely (body language and everything), and it becomes very hard to change that in any way....it becomes your natural way to execute that move...
therefore, wouldn't it be harder to first just learn the moves and get them right n then try n stylize it? wouldn't it be better to be working on the styling alongside?

Re: Having fun!
Good question ..
Styling is not limited to moves, its much bigger than that. Much broader.
It's not 'moves' that require styling, its the dance as a whole. You shouldn't aim at styling a particular move a particular way. There should be at least 3-4 different ways that you can style 'one' particular move.
Like i said, first develop a good level of comfort with the dance, the moves. No matter how monotonous it seems, do it over and over till you can do it with your eyes closed. Understand the way different guys lead and try adapting to it. Once your comfortable with yourself, and more importantly, confident, thats when you start learning different styles and apply it to your dance.
Styling is merely adding emotion to the dance. You don't express yourself by the moves you do, but through your style. However, in order to express, you have to know what you wanna say. And at an early stage when your just about learning the moves, you don't really know what that is.
Hence, i suggest, go over the basic skeleton of the moves, ALL the moves, the entire dance actually, and then figure out how YOU want it to look.
And voila ! You end up with your style, and look fabulous!
I do hope I've put the words correctly. And if there's anything else thats bothering you, don't hesitate to ask!!

No sarcasm, but confidant does not seem to be appropriate put word.heenaa wrote:I do hope I've put the words correctly.
