Salsa..ing with Meenakshi
Anand happened to be out of town today...and had meenakshi leading the class.
It was my first learning experience with meenakshi and I really must say she taught really well and came up with a fantastic combo....
Initially it seemed a lil intermediate but the way she took so much time to practice each step in isolation which made it look just like another basic combo.
Great going though....i njoyed the session. Atleast we have sumone really good who can replace anand when he is not around.
Thanx a ton once again.

Re: Salsa..ing with Meenakshi
Yeah......last Wed's session was really awesome.....had a good time learning Salsa from Meenakshi....the reason being we all went really slow in breaking down some of the really complicated moves like the Sumerero step (I guess I have spelt it correctly....!!!!) and practicing it on a comparatively slower music.....moreover I loved Karan and Meenakshi's performances...they were mind-blowing........the only difficulty I am facing right now is getting my foot work in sync with my hand movements.....guys/gals believe me......I practice more than the "recommended" 15 minutes at home...but I still forget my steps specially when I try to bring my hand movements and foot work in sync with each other....sometimes I get so engrossed in getting my own steps "right" that I absolutely forget that I am actually dancing with a partner (leave behind "leading" her)......Gosh.....this makes me feel pathetic....i am 5 sessions old in the Quickstep family........I just wanted to know whether this is a common phenomenon or its only me who is going seriously wrong somewhere....???

Re: Salsa..ing with Meenakshi
hello Priyank,
Welcome Priyank to Quickstep Family. Directly to the point. We all old Dancers have gone through this phase before. Its very common in the beginning. It took me 3 weeks to get out of Basic class and try combinations. But believe me Slow and Steady wins the race. You are doing well and you will get the flow of the dance as you practice more and more. Its my personal advice to Practice your Basics whenever you are free and listen to Salsa Music at times when its possible. This will surely help you. It has helped me a lot in improving my Salsa.

Hi Priyank,
Aman has given you a wonderful suggestion. In addition you should always remember that when you dance, NEVER NEVER look down , look at your partner. The co-ordination between your hands and legs will definitely come with more practice. To avoid loosing the beat of music also try to continously keep doing your basic footwork-which most of the guys forget.
I am sure you will grow into a very good Salsero with time and practice. Keep up the good work and regular practice.
Happy dancing.....
Meenakshi

Re: Salsa..ing with Meenakshi
Thank you Anand for trusting me with your class on Wednesday....It surely was an amazing learning experience for me.
And yes as far as the "being better" part is concerned, well we both know as much that U are -and will always be- the BEST. Let me put it this way. Dancing is an art of expressing but teaching how to express is an Art - I believe- very few of even the Best of Dancers have. And you are truely gifted with that Art.
Great Dancers do not always make great teachers, it is a rare combination, but all of us around you are fortunate to have one like you.
Stay blessed....
Meenakshi......
