DANCE CHEMISTRY
Readers do not worry; this is definitely not a science class. When I say chemistry I mean the “Chemistry of movement and dance”.
I am not very sure as to how many of you would agree, but I think dance is a kind of “SCIENCE”. It has rules, it has principles and it has laws. But the good part is, once you have learnt them all, you are allowed to break them.
Let’s simplify this a bit, so that it is easy to grasp. When you dance – here we refer to PARTNER DANCING - the most important thing -apart from your technical perfection- is CHEMISTRY. As chemistry involves reaction between two elements to give you a product that looks , feels and genuinely is beautiful, similarly couple dancing also needs a simple chemical reaction to make the act, EFFECTIVE -a mere treat to the senses of the dancers and the audience.
So what is it that you can do to get the Chemistry RIGHT?? Well this reaction should be pretty simple. You really don’t have to be a scientist to know that. Chemistry essentially refers to the GIVE and TAKE of the right attitude, the concern towards your dance partner and your own passion towards what you do. Say for example when do we say that a particular couple has amazing chemistry?? Not because they look physically good with each other but because they make us feel so. When they dance, they dance not only for themselves or merely just to show –off their skills to another hottie watching them, but they dance to make their partner and themselves enjoy what they do. The BEATS, the RHYTHM, the WORDS, the TOUCH….. everything just matters. Its not difficult only if you are AWARE.
Its simple “Every ACTION has an equal and opposite REACTION”. Now that is a law which is applicable to partner dancing as well. That’s the Art one needs to master in order to convince the Audience that what they see is not MADE UP.Its REAL, and that is what PERFORMANCE is all about.
If we are in class, it might happen that we are paired opposite to a partner that we are not comfortable with, or may be someone whom we just don’t like – for whatsoever reasons. I am sure we all experience that. But should this really matter???? Well if yes, then read some wonderful lines I found on the net and I thought are worth reading.
“It's difficult to pretend to get along great with someone you might not even like -- maybe it's luck or pheromones or just the ideal of two easygoing people getting paired up, but the partners who can generate the most heat, even if it's only on the dance floor, will be the ones who can stay the longest.”
HAPPY DANCING TO ALL
With lots of LOVE
