Amazing ladies styling vedio on the home page....smooth body waves and turns....Girls must be wondering on how this can be broken down to learn the whole sequence....

Re: What is shine?
I think shines are more of a personal thing...it shouldn't be copied move by move...it's about adding your personality into the moves.

Re: What is shine?
for the more advanced dancer, who can envisage new combinations and steps..shines improvisation is a huge opprotunity to enthrall the dance floor...however hum beginers keliye filal, shines ka mantra is
" Dekhe bhuje shikte hobe na,
apatoto ake ake sheko "
which translates as
At this point no, need to learn by seeing and understanding,
For the moment, copy the Master and learn

Anand,
Can we have a class on shines. Last time you did make us do two handshines, but it will be really nice if we can have a detailed session on it.

Re: What is shine?
it would be good to learn shines .. and make one look good on the dance floor .. and it would be great to learn some from Anand ..
Actually Im quite comfortable with Anands style , it allows you to be a bit lazy on occasions !
I mean that as a comliment , as it is motion and energy conserving , and you can get the best out of the girl.

Re: What is shine?
thank u samird,
but i think too much of energy conservation has made me fat.. i think i need to sweat a bit now
lol
jokes apart, style is a personal thing and while observing ur instructor and learning from him/her is great , the worst thing u could do is become exactly like that.. you lose your individuality and look like a clone - an assembly line factory churn..
i feel sad for the people who just end up looking like that - and i have seen many ppl around me like that in my line of work..
learn leading following, shines, timing and musicality. - but styling should always be your own

Re: What is shine?
Styling is about attitude and level of PASSION, according to me.
How to Do Salsa Shines
Step1
Begin your normal choreographed routine and dance along with your partner.
Step2
Break away from your partner. This can be done for many reasons. When it comes to Salsa shines the break away is often choreographed in order to spotlight the steps, moves, or techniques of one dancer in the pair or to give the other dancer a brief break in activity before or after a complicated step.
Step3
Shine. This is generally accomplished by incorporating some advanced footwork or flashy moves that work well with the music into your choreography. The goal of Salsa shines is, like the name says, to shine the spotlight on one of the partners in the pair. If you are the fortunate partner you will use the shine to put your own unique touch on the Salsa. The more skill and confidence you gain in your Salsa Dancing the better equipped you will be to handle the challenge of a shine and the more likely you will be to really enjoy the opportunity to have fun with and make your mark on the music.
Step4
Reunite with your partner and continue the choreography together as planned. This should happen at a predetermined point in the music and in the dance so that you are both prepared for the reunion. Salsa Shines are great exercises for building your confidence in each other in addition to your self-confidence as a Salsa Dancer.
