Dancing with partner of different level

Post  Guest on Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:55 pm

You asked or have been asked to dance with someone. How do you handle the level of your parter if he/she is better dancer than you?

For instance you pick a good looking chik and you later find she is too rigid, does not loosen her hands, cannot follow leads on time.
Or you be the guy who is unable to lead a an excellent female dancer, or just leading her few basic steps (she is getting bored of you!)

i usually dance with lower level girls and i have noticed that they tend to lead themselves and go off beat which is common.

but when i dance with higher level girl like grishma and sangeeta then i really enjoy the dance 'cause they never do anything on their own unless they get my lead.

I enjoy dancing with girls of the same level .. theres joy in discovering the moves together and doing them well.. I get very nervous whn I dance with the senior girls.. ask sangeeta.. i just keep making mistakes and bumbling on from one move to the other.. of course the seniors are very sweet about it and never rag!

I agree that this happens at times when the move is new to me. But if i grow into the move
it does not matter who the partner is or how experienced the partner is. In fact dancing with different partners brings a challenge and then add to it differing experience levels ..it is good entertainment and a learning opportunity

But when you are with strangers..how would you know - how good is your partner.
does the basic move reflect the competence/ Think I should watch for that ..and figure out
any ideas? why do we need to know - maybe to know how complex we can get...at junior and intermediate stage (level 1 and 2 and maybe 3 - post that i guess you can lead blind fold)
